The Buenos Aires Police finally arrested 26-year-old Agustín Maximiliano Juárez on Thursday, accused of being the author of the homicide of Diego Juan Marcelo Retamal, which occurred on October 20th in the La Plata area of Altos de San Lorenzo.
According to police sources, the incident occurred on Calle 17 between 79 and 80, following a violent brawl between the two men, who had previous conflicts and both had criminal records.
During the fight, 40-year-old Retamal allegedly drew a firearm and fired two shots, while Juárez, armed with a knife, confronted him. In the midst of the struggle, the weapon fell to the ground and was picked up by Juárez, who fired a shot that hit Retamal in the abdomen.
The victim was taken to the San Martín Hospital, where he remained hospitalized for several days in intermediate therapy, until he finally died from his injuries.
Following an investigation by officers from the 8th Police Station, testimonies and evidence were gathered that allowed the aggressor to be identified.
Juárez, known in the area for his criminal record, was located on Thursday near his home on Calle 14 between 82 and 83, where he was intercepted and arrested.
Judicial sources clarified that he has numerous criminal records, including cases for aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a war weapon, while the victim also had a record for similar crimes.
The Functional Instruction Unit (UFI) number 16 of the La Plata Judicial Department, headed by Juan Cruz Condomí Alcorta, ordered that Juárez be transferred and investigated this Friday, October 31st, for the crime of "homicide in a brawl".
A judicial spokesperson added: "The incident took place in the context of previous confrontations between both, who maintained old conflicts in the neighborhood".
Officers from the 8th La Plata Police Station carried out measures along with investigators from the La Plata DDI to find the wanted man.
